Most Izzy users use an Enttec DMX USB Pro giving you 512 channels of data to work with, and if you have the drivers correctly installed it works quite well ;)

1) How to setup the hardware 

You will need the following hardware :

  Dimmerpacks DMX cable (Check the input of the Dimmerpacks and the output pins of your Enttec. If they are the same you are golden, if not you need an plug to convert 5 to 3 or the other way around) Enttec DMX USB Pro Izzy on a Windows / Mac computer

Set the hardware address of the dimmerpack (DMX start), some dimmers have an little menu for that, others have dipswitches. Look up the manual and sometimes a power reset is required for the settings to take effect (learned this the hard way)

Connect the computer to the Enttec using the USB cable provided. Connect the DMX cable to the OUTPUT of the Enttec and connect the other end of the cable to the INPUT of the Dimmerpack (not the output or thru)

2) Are there particular configurations in Isadora? Is there a patch or an actor that I should be aware of?

3) Will this help me control fading and looping of all these lighting channels? How? If not, what will I be able to control?

Yeah, with above actor you can output the desired data, what is required from you is that you create the patch to make the values loop. You can do this quite easily with Enveloppe Generators++ and sequential triggers.

The thing with theatre lighting in general is that is quite expensive if you don't have the equipment yourself. Like you mention already, you need to have a USB > DMX interface for Izzy to communicate with the DMX protocol. And you need some kind of dimmer to take control of fresnels / pc / spots or even simple bulbs (That you also need to buy / get somewhere..)

I created IzzyHue, basically actors build in Isadora that allows you to communicate with Philips Hue. I don't say this isn't expensive (still around the 150 dollars mark for the starterskit), but it gives us some options because Hue bulbs can change color, we can change the brightness, we can change the fadetimes, etc.

The reason why I created IzzyHue is because most of the time I'm working on installations / theatre sets and there is not really a cost friendly way to actually change a single piece of scenery. (For example a lamp that we have on the stage that needs to change with the enviroment lighting of the set)

Thank you Juriaan, Ryan & Michel! Sorry that I went into full production mode and didn't get a chance to check the thread until now. The method of going into the ENTTEC Send Actor and changing the 'min period' has resolved the overloading issue. I just changed my number to "2ms" and the FPS went back up to 30 already. I will keep testing in real situations and let you guys know if anything else I found, otherwise this topic is resolved for now! Thanks so much!
